SWSA Recreational Soccer Program
The Recreational Program is an intermural league among several of our neighboring towns. There are no try-outs, and children of all skill level are welcome. 2 age groups are offered within the program: U8, U9-10. Programs are offered in both the Fall and Spring seasons. Each division has 1 weeknight practice with a volunteer coach/parent, 1 weeknight training session with our professional training partner GPS, and 1 weekend game.
Games for each division are coach-referee format. A coach from each opposing team is on the field to provide instruction while keeping the play clean and safe. Skill level varies each year among the Rec teams in the program. Coaches for the teams do their best to level play during the games to keep them competitive, if goal differential exceeds 5 or more. The Rec program focuses primarily on teaching participants fun, fundamentals, and sportsmanship of soccer. Equal playing time during games should be expected.
Our Rec program relies heavily on volunteers, to support the teams and participants. There are no fixed coaches in place, like the travel teams. Parents are highly encourage to volunteer as head coach, assistant coach, or team parent. A thorough knowledge if soccer is not required to make this a worthwhile experience for the kids. Our training partner GPS can assist with practice/coaching plans, if needed. Should there be no volunteers for a particular team or age group, the season may be cancelled and a refund issued. A trainer may be hired to coach the team, at additional cost above the standard registration fee. This would be reviewed with each parent for consent.
U8 Rec Program
U8 Spring Rec soccer is a coed program for boys and girls with 2009 birth years. It is an 8 week program run by a professional trainer, with focus on skills development. Sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons, and include training followed by 4v4 games/scrimmages. And end-of-year 7v7 game with goalies may be held at East Greenwich, so participants can see what to expect when moving to Travel or U9/10 Rec soccer. All registered players will receive a jersey and matching socks.
U9-10 Rec Program
U9-10 Rec soccer is a gender-specific program for boys with 2007-2008 birth years. The season includes 2 weeknight practices and games on Sundays. Teams will practice one night with a professional trainer and the other night with a volunteer coach. Games are played among local teams from Harrison, South Harrison, Woodstown, Franklin Township, and Pennsville. Approximately half of the games will require travel to their fields. They are coach-referee format, with the coaches on the field to provide in-game instruction as well as officiating. All registered players will receive a jersey and matching socks.
